Back to the Office? This Comms Benefit May Surprise You!

RTO (Return to the Office) may be this year’s most hated acronym, but some surprising comms benefits are being created as teams reassemble.

When the pandemic sent employees packing for their home offices, comms training was often put on hold. Media and crisis training, along with presentation coaching, frequently fell victim to travel bans and the WFH movement. While virtual workshops proved productive, many organizations were reluctant to try them.

Now that employees are back in traditional settings, this is the ideal time to resume crisis, media and presentation training programs that benefit both organizations and workers. Here’s why:

  1. Staff turnover. New people need to be educated on your comms policies, practices and messages. Comms workshops are very effective at accomplishing this.
  2. New reputational threats. From increasingly violent weather to the changing political environment, chances are your organization is facing new challenges. When was the last time you refreshed your crisis plan and trained on it?
  3. More comms opportunities. New social media platforms, video channels and even podcasts are all great storytelling tools, but only if leaders and spokespersons use them effectively.
  4. Meetings are back. Whether someone is speaking to disenchanted RTO employees or at an industry event, polished speaking skills are critical.
  5. Returning workers WANT professional development opportunities. According to Gallup, nearly 90% of millennials consider professional development or career growth opportunities very important in a job. Research also shows retention rates are higher among companies that provide PD opportunities.
